Texas Newspaper Hall of Fame

About the Hall of Fame

Click for a timeline of Texas newspaper historyBefore Texas was a state, before Texas was even a Republic, newspapers and newspaper people not only chronicled history, but helped to make it.

For more than 200 years, newspapers have played a vital role in the development and transformation of Texas. Established in 2006 by the Texas Newspaper Foundation, the Hall of Fame honors visionaries, innovators and community builders of all eras.

The Hall of Fame's purpose is to honor those who:

  • Have made an outstanding contribution to Texas newspaper journalism or, through Texas journalism, to newspaper journalism generally, or
  • Have made an extraordinary contribution to their communities, regions, the state of Texas or the nation through newspaper journalism, or
  • Have advanced the legacy of a free and responsible press, and
  • Have inspired others to improve the quality of the profession of journalism.

Up to four persons may be honored each year. Anyone may submit a nomination. The form may be downloaded from this web site.
